Every year, IU Dance Marathon [IUDM] hosts its annual gala to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children, and this year’s 20th anniversary continued the event’s mission.

Centered around the theme of “Together for Something Greater,” the event showcased numerous speakers sharing their connection with Riley Hospital for Children, IU Dance Marathon, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The main program began with a speech from Kyle Dietz, and his nephew, Hayden. Kyle served as a member of the executive council of IUDM alongside Ashley Louise Crouse and shared his unique connection with the organization and Riley Hospital for Children. Hayden, a 2024 Riley Champion, spoke about his experience facing a congenital heart defect and his dedication to helping other families facing medical challenges.

Seated at a table at the gala were members of IUDM’s Founding Group including Jill Stewart Waibel, Andy Waibel, Amy Carroll Balcius, Sarah Copher Claymon, Jason Barnaby, Lynne Becher Bir, and Kristi Engle Gaynor. Jill, founder of IUDM, shared her journey in creating the organization in memory of Ryan White and the legacy he created.

The night’s program featured a speech by Children’s Miracle Network President and CEO Dr. Aimee Daily, who traveled with fellow CMN Leadership Team members. Her words proved impactful for every gala attendee and provided continued inspiration as to the mission of IU Dance Marathon and Children’s Miracle Network.

The final speech of the night came from Connor Whaley, IUDM’s Director of Riley Development, speaking about his diagnosis of aplastic-anemia and his treatment at Riley Hospital for Children. Audience members learned of his strength and bravery amidst medical challenges, as well as his continued advocacy.

At a VIP reception held before the start of the gala, invitees heard toasts from David Biggerstaff, Riley Children’s Health President, and Courtney Roberts, Riley Children’s Foundation CEO and President.

Throughout the night, audience members were encouraged to donate and bid on silent auction items. Numbers showcasing the total amount of money rose up as the night came to a close with a total of $147,965.08 for Riley Hospital for Children.

We cannot wait until next year’s gala!
