Ways to Fundraise

While it may seem daunting to raise your desired goal for Dance Marathon, there are many ways that can boost your total including: Canning, The Letter Writing Campaign, Corporate Donations, and Other Fundraising Events.

Canning

One of the most profitable forms of fundraising for IUDM is Canister Solicitation, otherwise known as “canning.” There are many opportunities to can throughout the year. In particular, two organization wide weekends called Road Rules are an opportunity for anyone in our entire organization to travel anywhere in the greater Bloomington and Indianapolis areas to “can.”

Canning in the Classroom
Please refer to this script when canning in the classroom:

Hi! My name is (your name) and I'm (how you are involved in IUDM – committee chair, dancer, etc) for IU Dance Marathon. We work year round to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, with our fundraising year ending in November at our annual dance marathon. We hope that you will donate your spare change or a few dollars to help the children at Riley. Any amount helps! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me after class and be sure to check out our website – www.iudm.org, for more information about our organization! Thank you!

Letter Solicitation

The easiest and the most successful form of fundraising is through our letter writing campaign. It can be done from anywhere and doesn’t require leaving your room. The way to start is to get contact information; talk to your parents and get addresses from your family, neighbors, and friends. The more you can get the better.
Next, write your letter. You can write your own letter or use the template that is available here on our website. You can personalize your letters by adding a paragraph about your personal IUDM involvement or anything else you choose to share.
Be sure to indicate to make all checks out to Indiana University Dance Marathon.
Send out the letters as soon as you can. In the letter, you may also include things such as self-addressed stamped envelopes to make it easier for donors to send back money. As a courtesy to donors, please make sure that you bring all checks and cash to the IUDM office as soon as they come in.

Students - Corporate Donations

Corporate Donations possess great fundraising potential for IUDM. The Corporate Relations Committee is here to help you with every step of the IUDM Corporate Donation Process. You may have contacts with certain corporations through friends, family, or a personal work experience. It is IUDM’s goal to help you get them involved and contributing. We want to make it as easy as possible, so we have corporate packets and other information that can be sent to company contacts.

Students - Other Fundraising

As an individual or an organization, you do not have to limit yourself using one of the “standard” methods of fundraising to help IUDM. There are an unlimited number of things you could do; use your imagination. We ask that you contact a member of the Executive Council to ensure that your idea is permitted, and they may be able to offer you additional resources as well that may aid in your fundraising efforts.
